Here are six methods to fix the problem your phone won’t send or receive text messages through Google Messages. Text messages/SMS has a prominent role in our day to day life. OTPs and official information from several services are still sent by SMS. So, no new SMS is receiving on your phone means you’re missing important information.

Re-insert SIM card and Reboot the phone

If you aren’t receiving new SMS on your Android phone, especially after a software update, this method may help. Remove the SIM card, switch off the phone, re-insert the SIM card, and reboot the phone. Turning on/off the airplane mode also may help.

Clear Carrier Services Data

In certain situations, deleting cache and data in Carrier Services will fix the SMS issue. To do it, go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > choose Carrier Services > clear the cache and data.

Disable Adaptive Battery Feature

Adaptive Battery feature will preserve the battery power on the Android phone. It will shut down unused apps running in the background to extend the battery life. So, if you aren’t receiving SMS, turn off the Adaptive Battery feature to know whether it helps you. To do so, go to Settings > Battery > Adaptive battery > toggle to Off the feature.

Check Spam and Blocked List

Google Messages app has a fantastic Spam and Block feature. If any of your contacts in the spam list or blocked list, you will not receive text messages from that number. To check it, open the Google Messages app, tap on the tree-vertical menu, and tap on the Spam and blocked option. Check any contact in the Spam and blocked list. Also, tap any text, which will show a pop-up with no spam option. Tap Not spam to continue to receive SMS. Also, check any contact is blocked in your contact app. Open the app, tap on the three-dot menu, and tap Settings. Tap on blocked numbers and then tap on the X mark to unblock the number.

Fix for Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) Issue

MMS issue is common on Android phones. If you aren’t receiving MMS on your phone, then check it by turning On the Mobile data Always Active option. To do so, enable Developer options from the phone settings, scroll down to the ‘Mobile data always active’ option, and toggle it on.

Turn Off iMessage Account

If you switched from iPhone to an Android phone and not receiving new text messages (SMS), then iMessage might be the culprit. You should turn off iMessage on your iPhone. It is because new text messages from Apple devices is sent to your iMessage account only. To turn off iMessage, insert your SIM card into your iPhone.
