For your information, as Motorola (now Lenovo) stopped support for Moto G 2014, you will not get official Nougat update. However, experienced users can still enjoy latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat on it by flashing LineageOS 14.1 (former CyanogenMod). The developer team has released the Nougat based ROM for Moto G (titan) with a number of useful additions to enhance your Android experience.
After installing Android 7.1.1, users can enjoy multi-window mode, new notification system, better battery life, mobile data saving and several other value added features. Installing official LineageOS 14.1 on Moto G (XT1063, XT1064, XT1068 and XT1069) is very simple, but your device has unlocked bootloader, root access and latest version of TWRP custom recovery (v3.0 or up) installed on it. Also, Android 7.1 requires latest bootloader, so your Moto G should be running on Android Marshmallow. Pre-requisites for installing LineageOS 14.1: a) Your device should be Moto G 2014 code named titan (XT1063, XT1064, XT1068 and XT1069) b) Requires unlocked bootloader, root access and latest version of TWRP recovery (3.0+) installed. c) Your Moto G 2014 should be running on Android Marshmallow d) Backup your phone data e) At least 60% battery charge remaining on your phone
How to Install LineageOS 14.1 on Moto G 2014
- Download LineageOS 14.1 for Moto G 2014 (titan) from here and Android 7.1 compatible GApps zip from here. Place both zip file on your phone’s SD card.
- Boot your Moto G 2014 into TWRP recovery (press Power button + Volume down key together).
- In TWRP recovery, tap on ‘Backup’ and backup your system (recommended)
- In TWRP recovery, tap on ‘Wipe’ and wipe System, Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache
- Now, select ‘Install’, then choose the ROM zip file and flash it. Then, flash Gapps zip file also.
- Once again, wipe Cache (to fix boot loop), then reboot the phone. Note that the first boot will take 10 – 20 minutes. After rebooting, setup and enjoy Android 7.1.1 Nougat on Moto G. Leave your views in the comment section below.
