Installing CyanogenMod 12.1 (Android 5.1) on 3rd Gen Moto G 2015 is quite easy. If you are interested, check out the installation guide below.
This tutorial is going to assume that you are already pretty savvy with tweaking operating systems and that you have unlocked your Moto G’s bootloader, installed TWRP recovery and rooted (read this guide). The status of this unofficial build of CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM for Moto G 2015 is beta, however most things are working properly. It is recommended that you should backup your current ROM before flashing CM 12.1 and it should not be installed on a device that is using as a daily driver.
Install CyanogenMod 12.1 on 3rd Gen Moto G 2015
- Download the CM 12.1 ROM zip file [HERE] and send it to your Moto G 2015’s SD card (do not unzip the files on your computer)
- Also, download Gapps (Google apps) zip file [HERE] and send to your phone’s SD card
- Now, boot your Moto G to TWRP recovery mode. There are a number of ways to get to recovery mode, but the easiest is probably installing the Quick Boot app from the Play store.
- Once you are in recovery mode, use TWRP to wipe the /data and /system partition of your phone.
- Now, from TWRP recovery, hit the ‘Install’ button and find the CM 12.1 ROM zip file you transferred. Once the process is completed, install Gapps zip file also.
- Finally reboot your device. It will take few minutes to complete the first boot. Note: If you come across bootloop issue (stuck in boot), reboot to recovery (use Power and Volume Down keys), and wipe cache partition, dalvik cache and factory reset (source – XDA).
