Google may release the new version of camera app (v4.2) with the Android 7.1 update. However, if you want to tryout the camera app right now, a ported version of the app is now available for download. Thanks to folks over at XDA, the ported Pixel camera app works on Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P running on Android 7.0 Nougat.

The most notable changes in Pixel camera app are grid lines option and manual exposure settings in the camera interface. Grid lines helps you easily line up a subject, while, the exposure setting lets you control the light of a subject. Both options help us to take better photos. Interested users may go here to download the Pixel camera APK, which can be installed on your Nexus phone running on Android 7.0 Nougat. Note that, the camera app mentioned here will not work on any other phone and ROMs. Installation Instruction

  1. Enable ‘Unknown sources’ option in the Security settings
  2. Save the downloaded camera app APK to your phone’s SD card and tap on to install.
  3. Run the app and your device will ask few permissions. Accept all permissions and you are ready to go. Open Pixel camera app, you will see a Grid lines (#) option in the screen. Just tap on it to make changes. To get exposure setting, tap on the screen, you will see a slider on the right of the screen. (Source – XDA)
